It may sound exceptionally cool to you to have a horse you can call your own, but buying and keeping a horse is no child’s play. Obviously, you don’t want to make a decision that you are going to regret. If your decision is still positive, now you can begin your search for the special horse.
Once you found the horse you want to buy that looks right for you, what do you do? Give an honest assessment and decide if this horse will meet the specific needs you have in mind. What motivates you to buy a horse for your own? Do you have plans to ride this horse? In many instances, horses are used to drive a cart or buggy.

It is a good idea to check the temperaments of this horse before you take it home! Do you want a quiet companion that will be at your side during your leisure rides in the evening or do you wish for a feisty partner that will blaze through rugged terrains during your hunting excursions? If you aren’t comfortable with horses, don’t get a pushy horse, as you will find it ruling you and not the other way around. If simple trail rides is what you have in mind, do not purchase show animals that carry very high prize tags, it does not serve the purpose. Do not purchase a young horse and try to train them yourself if you do not have enough skills to do it. When the rider and the horse are both inexperienced, it means disaster. Always be patient and take time to learn, it can avoid injury to you and your horse that arise form your ignorance of the right thing to do.
Never go alone - always take a friend along who will be your guiding hand. Many prospective owners end up buying a horse that is unsuitable for them and this can be avoided with some unbiased advice from a friend. It is, of course, preferable if your friend has previous experience with horses as they can ride your prospective purchase on your behalf. If the current owner is riding the horse insisting you don’t need to try it yourself, you should be a little suspicious of this are best off leaving this one alone.
